Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Arlene Washburn, Founder of AVConnexions, LLC., located in Blairstown, NJ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

AVConnexions is a boutique coaching and matchmaking service working with singles aged 30 to 65 who want to achieve their relationship goals.

Tell us about yourself

I'm on a mission to help people achieve their relationship goals, and I know firsthand how hard it can be when all you know about relationships is what you learned from your parents, who are not always the best role models. They sometimes teach you to believe that love happens when you least expect it, and all you have to do is sit and wait.

We're made to think that no skills or tools are necessary to make good partner choices or to know ourselves enough to choose the right partner, and we end up with the wrong people and fail in relationships. That happened to me, and I embarked on a journey to learn, get certified, and do better. I'm now happily married to my soulmate, and I've worked with many who have experienced the same results after working with me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is knowing that most businesses fail within the first year, and because of the business insight I gained from twenty-plus years of working as an executive in the pharmaceutical industry, I could create a company now in business for over a decade. Also, they recently awarded me.

"The Most Innovative Woman In Matchmaking, 2022" by an independent organization that found me and vetted me to get that prestigious award. I'm most proud of a client who worked with me as her coach and her now husband who hired me as a matchmaker. I could connect those two he only met her, and she only met him, and she got married for the first time at sixty.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things for a business owner is learning to delegate, hire the right people, and document your process and services for consistency and efficiency.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The top three tips I would give someone starting, running, and growing a business today are:

  1. Make sure that the services you want to provide solve a problem.
  2. Always be learning and improving yourself and your services.
  3. Prioritize your sales activities daily and hire the right people.
