Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with David Hellman, founder of Aspen Grey LLC., located in Wichita, KS, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

A health and wellness clinic that focuses on restoring vitality and health through a Functional, Integrative, Personal, and Precision Medical Practice. In Functional Medicine, we focus on the root cause of symptoms/disease, optimal lab results, not just normal, and a preventative, proactive, holistic approach. Integrative because I will use multiple tools to achieve your health goals, nutrition, stress management, sleep evaluation, movement, detoxification, and lifestyle evaluation. Personal because no patient is the same, everyone has their own unique health makeup. Precision because we can look at genetics, nutritional status, and individual metabolic pathways that impact a patient's health and wellness. This holistic approach prevents disease and produces long-lasting health and vitality.

Tell us about yourself

I am A Board Certified Emergency Medicine physician who has practiced EM for over 30 years. About 15 years ago, I was in poor health and 25 lbs. overweight. I went to my first Anti-Aging Conference and was so impressed that I became a patient of Cenegenics and then a Cenegenics Fellow Trained physician. Through an acquaintance, I found A4M, The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. I went through their extensive Board Certification and, in 2015, became Board Certified in Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine. A4M training is in Functional Medicine, which I believe is the direction that medicine is headed. A new paradigm, a new approach to treating patients. I saw my own health improve drastically, and having patients tell me that they are EXCITED about their health care motivates me daily.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating a clinic that has a different approach to health care and medicine and being successful through word of mouth.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Legalities, taxes, accounting.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Surround yourself with smart people in fields in which you lack knowledge. Have a positive team that works well together. Persistence and patience.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

There is always something to learn; never stop educating yourself. Always be open to suggestions, criticism, and possibilities. Believe in your dream and work at it daily.
