Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jimmy Smith, Owner of Ask Jimmy Smith, located in Fenton, MO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I have multiple businesses, including an Amazon reselling business, a software company for eCommerce Sellers, Youtube Channel @AskJimmySmith for training people to sell on Amazon, and coaching/consulting for eCommerce sellers.

Tell us about yourself

I started selling on Amazon initially to get me out of my corporate insurance sales job. After hard work and dedication, I was able to leave that job and pursue Amazon full-time. After hitting over $100,000 per month in sales, I launched a course that has turned into my book, Youtube channel, SaaS company, and so much more. I love helping people succeed in their businesses and to bring people back home from their jobs. To have over 1,000 success stories come from the content I've taught is amazing!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

There are 2. First is selling over $1,000,000 in a year on Amazon for the first time. Second is seeing over 1,000 different success stories come from the content that I've taught with selling replenishable products on Amazon.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Time management. When I first started, I had no idea how to properly manage my time. Over the last 4-5 years, I've really gotten into a good process for organizing my day and making sure I'm constantly moving my business and life forward each and every day that I can.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be patient with the process. If you decide you want to do something, make sure to give it time to work out.
  2. Focus more on the activities you need to accomplish than on the revenue results. You can control your activities, but many times the revenue comes further down the line after you've been consistent with those activities.
  3. Work with other people as much as you can. Working from home can be isolating, so make sure that you are networking with other people and learning/growing together. It really makes a HUGE difference even if you do eCommerce like me.
