Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in finance but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ashmara Lawrence, owner, and CEO of Ashmara Enterprises, located in Silver Spring, MD, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a personal finance educator, and I specialize in educating female business owners and entrepreneurs to plan for retirement so that they can retire rich.

Tell us about yourself

I’ve had a knack for business my whole life. I started my first business at eight years old. Before becoming a certified personal finance consultant, I taught myself how to build my own credit to a 770, paid off 20,000 worth of credit cards on a modest nanny salary of $40,000, and saved over 30k by reading books, attending seminars, and executing what I learned. Doing that for myself motivated me to teach other business owners like myself to live richer lives. I also LOVE to teach as I have a background in early childhood education and seeing others accomplish what I have is extremely warm to my heart.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is building my business credit to 250,000 in a year and hiring a personal brand strategist to help scale my personal brand.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing is naysayers, but you must learn to block out the noise. It doesn’t matter if it’s friends or family. Keep your eyes on the price and focus on the dream.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Three tips I would give anyone who is looking to start a business are to remain consistent, continue to educate yourself throughout the process, and have a mentor who can take you from where you are to where you want to be.
