What's your business, and who are your customers?
As a whole, it's art. I provide onsite hair and makeup services for a variety of purposes, including magazine shoots, events/photography, and personal styling. I also specialize in dimensional color at Elevate Organic Hair Salon.
Tell us about yourself
It all started with - The pandemic! I found myself drawn to finding a more creative career because I wanted to rejoin the workforce. But, it had to be something I loved to justify time away from my family. I started doing some creative makeup looks, connecting with a ton of local artists, and feeling so embraced in the community. I realized early in my career that these beautiful people also needed someone when they were forced to sit still. Someone they can just breathe with and be comfortable with. It helped that painting and art have been my hobbies since I can remember, and they have served me best, especially with color theory. The most motivating thing in my career is the impact I can have on people daily. It's hard to describe your connection with people, but it's really special. I feel like the more kindness nuggets I can sprinkle in the world, the better it will be.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I've had my hair and/or makeup work published in 3 different magazines! Also, attending and graduating from cosmetology school with two children!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Creating healthy boundaries. It's ok to be unavailable after 8 pm. It's ok not to respond if you're with your family. Part of life is enjoying it, so I try not to let it take away from other important aspects of my life.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
