Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ashe Milkovic, Founder of The International Association for Functional Hormone Health, based in United States.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The International Association for Functional Hormone Health is an educational institution that aims to empower women's health professionals with mastery of functional hormone health. Through 1:1 mentorship, practitioner training, educational webinars, and educational resources, the IAFHH stands as the voice of authority on the most up-to-date education in women's health.

Whether you come from a background in nutrition, herbalism, fertility awareness, prenatal care, or clinical settings, IAFHH will provide you with revolutionary approaches to improving the health of your female clients and patients.

Tell us about yourself.

I am a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and Functional Hormone Health Expert. As the founder and CEO of The International Association for Functional Hormone Health, I strive to make advancements in women's health accessible by teaching tools and strategies to health professionals to expand their knowledge, skill sets, and practices in functional hormone health. Through my association, I am on a mission to educate, collaborate, and create a thriving community of skilled practitioners passionate about helping transform the lives of women all over the globe.

When I started my practice in 2017, I felt lost, confused, and unsure of how to start a business and sustain a successful private practice. My first year of practice was very challenging. However, over time, I continued to show up, figure things out, and eventually create the business of my dreams. Today, our goal with the IAFHH is to provide a space for practitioners to receive direct support and mentorship as they refine their clinical skills in hormone health and develop their private practices.

Being able to provide this level of support to our clients—support that I wish I had when I was first inspired me to continue to show up each and every day. In addition, the impact we are making on the world as a whole by helping to innovate change in how women receive healthcare on a global level is an honor to facilitate. I am incredibly grateful every day for having the opportunity to do this work.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating the curriculum within the IAFHH Functional Hormone Specialist Certification Program (our introductory offer for providing practitioners with clinical education in functional hormone health) has been one of my most significant accomplishments. To date, we have students and graduates from 13 different countries. With each class, we continue to grow bigger and better, expanding into even more areas of the world.

Having the opportunity to make a global impact in women's healthcare and research by providing an accessible option for practitioners to refine their clinical skills and expand their education in functional hormone health is my absolute dream come true.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Running a business will inevitably be challenging, especially when you make a global impact through your work. Some highs and lows come with being an entrepreneur. Still, it is also one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever have.

One thing that I have found challenging over time is learning how to separate "self" from "business" and trust in the process, even when times get tough. Your business may be a part of you, but it is an entity entirely outside you in many ways. Your job as an entrepreneur is to learn how to separate yourself from the process and allow your business to come to fruition and expand within its own divine timing.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Dream BIG. You can only accomplish what you set out to achieve, so don't limit yourself! In the end, the only one holding you back is you. So step out of the way, and allow yourself to meet your highest potential and achieve your wildest dreams.
  2. Trust the process. You will never be given a vision you cannot bring to life. Get clear on what is brewing inside you, and find ways to help manifest it into reality. Please don't give up on the dream, no matter how challenging it gets. Every challenge is an opportunity to grow more robust and find solutions that help to make your business & impact even more unstoppable.
  3. Don't be afraid to reach out for support and receive mentorship while developing your business and private practice. Try to learn from others in your field who have been where you are. We all need mentors, and being supported by one can help you achieve your dreams with much more clarity, ease, and success.
