Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Simon Mansell, Founder of Artemis Distribution LLC, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My main business is called Artemis. We distribute devices to Beauty professionals in the US and UK.

Tell us about yourself

My wife and I discovered our first product when we were on vacation. Cryoskin is a cold temperature massage; the average person loses 1.85 inches on their waist over 5 sessions. We now also distribute Endospheres, which is amazing for reducing the appearance of cellulite, and Plason, which helps people with acne and improves serum absorption and can help with the appearance of fine lines/wrinkles. I like the company's mission to help more beauty professionals get into business and increase the amount they make per hour using devices instead of just creams and powders.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

A number of my team across the businesses I have run have started their own businesses. At Artemis, we have helped over 1,500 locations in the US grow their businesses and become more successful.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, it's dealing with my mental health. There are always issues when running businesses. I need to remind myself that those are problems to solve instead of allowing them to trigger things like anxiety or depression.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get started! Once you start, you have to figure things out.
  2. Have a strategy - Strategy is how you will achieve your objectives. Wildly "hustling" for the sake of it is a waste of time. Read "Good Strategy, Bad Strategy" by Richard Rumelt.
  3. Start with product and sales. You need to have something good to sell that you believe in and can make money with. You only know if a product is good by actually selling it. When you have product/market fit, you will know as sales will come easier.
