Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Robert Wilson, Co-Founder of Arizona Culinary Institute, located in Scottsdale, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a small, independent culinary school. We exist primarily to train professionals for the hospitality industry, but some of our students are also culinary enthusiasts who are looking to improve their skills.

Tell us about yourself

I have been in the hospitality industry for my entire working career. At some point, I thought sharing my knowledge and experience with others would be a good direction to take my career. So, I started teaching and never looked back!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating an independent culinary school that has outlasted many of our corporate competitors. We have a solid curriculum that is time-tested and industry-proven, and because we are privately owned, we can place all of our focus on our student's success.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Trying to survive the unexpected hiccups that the world can throw at you, such as pandemics and a wildly fluctuating economy.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research.
  2. Be customer-focused.
  3. Don't compromise your quality.
