Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in skincare but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nancy Ihebom, founder, and CEO of Areli Beauty Inc., located in Calgary, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Areli Beauty is an all-natural, plant-based skincare brand on a mission to make clean beauty accessible to all. Our brand is built upon a self-love approach to beauty and wellness. We aim to encourage individuals in our community to adopt self-care as a tool to reduce anxiety and maintain good mental health.

We started in 2021 and discovered that our customers are:

  • Conscious consumers.
  • Beauty enthusiasts that care about the planet.
  • Always researching online for natural products.

They are looking to incorporate good natural beauty products as part of their daily beauty regime.

Tell us about yourself

I immigrated to Canada with my husband and 6months son. It was hard navigating the new country, and I had no family here. Then I had my second son, and it got harder. Looking back, it made me realize the importance of self-care and having a community around you to help out. I also had dry skin that got uncomfortable, itchy, and scaly, especially during the winter months. Areli Beauty was born out of frustration with the lack of natural moisturizers available that would elevate the skin's natural radiance and also provide much-needed moisture. Utilizing my degree in biochemistry, I lovingly created a line of skincare products that would fill the industry void.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I am motivated each time I get feedback that our products and awareness have helped someone positively. I am motivated that we can employ women and people of visible minorities to help reduce the economic challenges they face.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Wearing different hats while building the business, it can sometimes get overwhelming.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Seek help from advisors to investors.
  2. Try to hire early on so you can share the duties and responsibilities of building a startup.
  3. Take time off to rest and rejuvenate.
