Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental health, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kevin Kuchta, the founder of First Response Mental Health, an app for first responder mental health, in Thunder Bay, ON, Canada.

Tell us all about your business...

We provide an app-based solution for first responder organizations who support their member's health and wellness with an internal peer-support team.

What's your background and motivation to grow as a business owner?

We started out as a software company that built systems for mines. Our local EMS group came to us when they had a particularly hard year within their organization. The exposure to trauma that first responders face is something that's often taken for granted. I'm motivated by the philosophy that we need to help those that help us. We can't expect our heroes to face what they do and get up the next morning to do it all over again without offering them support.

As an entrepreneur, what does success ultimately mean to you?

Encountering a problem and seeing a concept brought through to a working product that is widely used.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being an entrepreneur?

Staying the course through the ups and downs and fixing your eyes ahead so you're not as affected by the turbulence that can happen through a startup.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a small business today?

If you have an idea or a concept that solves a problem, jump in with both feet. Don't stop if you get rejected and keep sharing your ideas until someone is ready to listen.
