Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jason Helmes, Founder of Anyman Fitness, located in Canton, MI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are an online fitness firm that specializes in helping everyday people get the most out of their fitness regimens. We specialize in strength training and flexible dieting in order to achieve the desired result. We have a diverse clientele and over 1,000 clients from around the globe.

Tell us about yourself

I used to be a middle school teacher who weighed 300 pounds. I had been trying to lose weight for years without much success. This sent me down the rabbit hole of evidence-based fitness, and I ended up losing 80 pounds using nutritional and exercise science approaches. This led me to help some friends and family. Eventually, I started my own business helping other men and women who were facing similar struggles. My biggest motivation comes from my clients - they motivate me to keep grinding and helping people, and they're such a joy to be around.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say being able to quit my career as a teacher and work for myself full time for the last 6 years is something I'm very proud of. My biggest accomplishment, though, is being able to say I've helped over 15,000 men and women achieve their goals of being lean, strong, and healthy.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The ups and downs that come with running a business are always tough. One day, you're on top of the world, and the next day, you're positive you'll be out of business in a few months. Remaining even-keeled and taking things in stride can be difficult at times.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The best advice I can give as a small, service-oriented business is always to put others first. Nobody cares about what YOU can do; they care about how you can help them. The more you give, the more you will receive in return - that's the Law of Reciprocity. Always try to solve problems for other people, and you're nearly guaranteed to do well.
