Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in clothing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Aimee Poynor, Founder of ANP Los Angeles, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

ANP is a Los Angeles-based clothing line. We focus on high-quality, timeless pieces to curate your perfect wardrobe. Our main mission is to create staple pieces that you can keep in your wardrobe forever. Using natural materials and focusing on an ethical and sustainable production process. Everything is made in Los Angeles, California, with a highly experienced small team, who we trust with the quality of our products. All of our fabrics and closely overseen manufacturing are done locally and domestically. Our customer is a woman looking to curate a wardrobe of staples and essentials—quality and timeless pieces that you want to keep long-term and wear over and over.

Tell us about yourself

Since I was a little girl, I have always had an interest in fashion and had a very specific sense of style and was very particular with what I wore. I wanted things to fit me perfectly and would notice the smallest things if something was slightly off. This grew with age, and I have always wanted to be able to create my ideal clothing line that suited all my wants and needs. I loved focusing on details, high-quality fabrics, and construction. So this motivated me to create my perfect line of elevated essentials.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Seeing anything come to completion is always such a great feeling. From the initial concept and all the headaches in between, seeing the finished product always makes it all worth it and brings me an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. Launching our very first collection and seeing it come to life will always be one of my most cherished memories of starting my business.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Everything is on you. You are responsible for your brand’s reputation and sense of self. It’s one of the hardest things, but it also gives such a sense of freedom.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. It’s a process. It takes time and a lot of patience. If you’re truly passionate about what you’re doing or creating, it will always work out for you.
  2. Trust yourself. If you have something in mind, don’t overthink it; just do it and follow it through.
  3. Have a mentor or someone you look to for advice and some guidance along the way. This can help you stay on track and really push you to achieve what you want.
