What's your business, and who are your customers?
Annie's Ginger Elixir is a wellness beverage company based in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Annie's Ginger Elixir is a super-charged ginger tea.
Tell us about yourself
I created Annie's Ginger Elixir as a home remedy 27 years ago to help fight against chronic upper respiratory issues. Because it was so effective for me, my family, and friends, I had dreamt about bottling my super potent ginger tea and bringing it to market; we launched the business five years ago. The biggest inspiration and motivation for me is when our customers tell us how much it has helped them. Our mission is to educate the public about healing foods.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment was getting into Whole Foods!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
As I was a Graphic Designer by trade, my co-founder is an artist. As creatives, we had to figure out everything about the food industry, which we did use Google University! But I think the hardest thing is trying to fund our growth as we are growing rapidly!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Consider partnering up with someone; it can be quite lonely.
- Have a great network of fellow entrepreneurs that you can consult, talk to, or even vent. We found that we are usually having the same challenges and can usually find solutions through them.
- Be open to suggestions, a recommendation but always listen to your gut; it will never fail you. You, in the end, know what is right for your business.
