Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Annie Verderame, Owner of Annie Verderame Pilates, located in Phoenix, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Pilates teacher specializing in Prenatal and Postnatal pilates. In January, I am launching a brand new app in the app store, Pilates for Pregnancy. It will have weekly workouts, stretch classes, tons of education, and dos and don'ts on how to work out safely during pregnancy.

Tell us about yourself

I love taking care of people. I have been a Pilates teacher for over 15 years, and at the beginning of my career noticed a niche of clients who needed specific help and attention: pregnant people. I absolutely love helping them feel great throughout their pregnancy, have a strong and successful delivery, and, most importantly, help them recover properly afterward. It can completely change a person's life for the better if they take care of themselves and work out the correct way both before and after delivery. I love seeing my clients live healthy, strong, thriving lives after even the most intense pregnancies and deliveries.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Maintaining clientele for as long as I have. I have so many clients who have been with me for years, and all of them have had multiple pregnancies and deliveries under my care. They keep coming back because my system works - and that's the best compliment in the world!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Managing my time, energy, and stress. Dealing with clients with different needs and personalities can be difficult. But to be honest, it's totally worth it. There's nothing better than being my own boss, making my own schedule, and making decisions that are best for me.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Be prepared, thorough, and strong, and stick to your beliefs and how you want your business to run.
