What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am an Animal Reiki Master. I teach Animal Reiki as well as take private clients. My clients are pet owners and horse owners who are looking for a way to help their animal companions reduce stress, relieve anxiety, and recover from abuse or trauma. I specialize in assisting animals who are experiencing a terminal illness or are reaching the end of life.
Tell us about yourself
I learned the traditional practice of Reiki about 10 years ago to help a family member who suffers from a chronic illness. I knew almost immediately that I had to work with animals. I learned Reiki for Animals so that I could help improve the quality of life for all living things - but especially those who have experienced trauma or are approaching the end of life. Creating a better life for animals is what motivates me every day!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment to date is creating a thriving community of animal advocates. I teach a full course load of Animal Reiki classes, and our impact on animal welfare is growing steadily!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The solitude and finding support. I am a solopreneur, and managing the "business" part of my business is a challenge when all I want to do is spend my days providing for the welfare of animals.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be passionate about what you do.
- Don't let fear stop you from going after your dreams.
- Be open to the possibility - your business may go in a direction you never imagined.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
There is more than one road to success - and it is never too late! I am a "corporate dropout" who walked away from my job as a corporate exec because life is too short! I was 58 years old when I said 'no more to the corporate hamster wheel. So many people stay trapped in jobs they hate, shackled by fear (I was one of them). Look back at your childhood and the dreams you had. I wanted to be a marine biologist, zoologist, or oceanographer. I thought I had let my dream of "working with animals" slip through my fingers. But I never actually let go of the dream. Kick fear to the curb, become a non-conformist, and live life on your own terms!
