Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Angie Kratzer, an English teacher and Curriculum Specialist based in Asheboro, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I create curriculum resources for English teachers, and my primary customer is a high school English teacher.

Tell us about yourself

I am a retired teacher, and I burned out myself out of the profession. It is my goal to help teachers leave school at school so they can tend to their health and their families.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

About once a month, I get a product review like this one, and it makes it all worthwhile:

"This was a lifesaver! I had never taught AP before, and this resource really helped me figure out the best way to teach it to my students. There are SO many resources that I haven't yet used them all, but what I have used is always wonderfully presented and easy to implement. The seller is also wonderful to work with if you have any questions!"

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I have to be very intentional about getting out of the house to spend time with non-virtual humans! Being a solopreneur has way more perks than negatives, but isolation is tough. I just have to be deliberate about getting out there. Sometimes, that means lunch with a friend. Sometimes, it means going to a writers' conference to collaborate with people who do what I do.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get a grip on email marketing NOW. Don't wait. Start that list!
  2. Separate your personal money from your business money immediately.
  3. Surround yourself with people who are smarter than you and who have the skills you do not yet possess.
