Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Angela Watson Robertson, owner of Angela Watson Coaching LLC, located in Kansas City, MO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a Board-Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and Life Coach. I work with clients remotely from all over the U.S., Canada, and Australia. I specialize in working with anxious moms and people with endometriosis, chronic illness, anxiety, and gut health challenges. I help clients reinvent their lives, often starting with the food that they eat.

Tell us about yourself

After having several family members pass from preventable lifestyle diseases, I left my financial services corporate career in 2015 to shift toward creating a career and coaching practice in holistic wellness. I've worked with hundreds of men and women over the past seven years to feel better and improve their health via lifestyle medicine: diet, exercise, supplementation, and other healing modalities. My goal is to help women and moms feel better in their bodies and improve their quality of life in order to fulfill their own soul's mission and call. We can't do what we are here to do if we are sick- nutrition can help!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've worked with hundreds of women all over US/Canada, and I continue to receive referrals and repeat clients who want to work on a new challenge or area of their life. I love to see clients grow and change when working with them long-term, often over the years. I'm proud to be successful in private practice after seven years!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The variable income can be tough, and finding your ideal client. It takes a lot of trial and error to figure out what works for you and your business, and that can warrant a lot of "failure"- you have to be willing to do the internal mindset work to pick yourself back up again and try things differently.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Create several streams of revenue/ cash flow from different client bases.
  2. Run things on a shoestring if you can at the start until you figure out what is working and see if you even like doing it.
  3. Hire help as much as you can for things you aren't good at. Find partners and team members to collaborate with and grow together.
