What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am one of the Managing Partners and Senior Advisors with Flatiron Wealth Management. We work with clients across Canada and Internationally to help them take control of their financial plans.
Tell us about yourself
I was raised by a single mom, and money was always an issue for us. I got my first job at 11 years old and have always been good at earning money, but it wasn't until I owned the first business that I truly understood that it doesn't matter how much money you make; it matters how much you keep. Financial Planning is the discipline of not being sloppy with the money that you make and using it to achieve what you want.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Working with an amazing team of people who genuinely care about our clients. Focus on your team, and the rest will follow.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The top two challenges of being a business owner are:
- Finding people that are the right fit for your team.
- Managing cash flow versus resources required for growth
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Be prepared for the ups and downs of running your own business; they will happen daily. Try not to over-stress about the challenges that are going to happen, and never get too comfortable. Surround yourself with experts that complement your skill set. Find a business coach and a professional team (lawyer, accountant, and financial planner) that you trust today.
