Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Anastacia Walden, Founder of Walden Writes for Women & Roots Coaching, located in Gainesville, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

CONNECTION is at the core of my business. Whether I am writing and editing or communicating on a deep level with my Relationship & Empowerment Coaching clients, I bring my whole authentic self to my work.

Tell us about yourself

I was born a highly creative person with a deep need to connect with people. My writing and coaching careers were born from a love of these two traits. I come alive when writing, whether for my articles and books or when writing for my clients.

Empowerment and Relationship Coaching allows me to utilize my many years of communication & medical field training (I was a Midwife for 14 years) to empower people to transform their lives. Writing and communicating verbally doesn't come easy for everyone, and I find it a thrill to remind my clients of their strengths and to encourage them to do the hard and uncomfortable things, such as communicate their needs to those they care about.

I see how shame and low self-esteem can leave people feeling trapped in their lives. When we uncover what is hidden, the freedom to make different choices can take hold. This is where the magic happens. Through validation, empathy, and recognizing strengths, most people can overcome past wounds and move forward in life. This is my work.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I believe my pride in setting up a healthy work culture spills over to my clients. I care for myself physically and emotionally to show up 100% for my clients. I listen, I am flexible, and I really want to hear what my clients expect from me to give them realistic expectations. I am a naturally curious person, and I genuinely feel excited for them when they reach their goals and have a lightbulb moment that helps them to move past an issue.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Well, taxes. That's about it. I love working for myself, which allows me the freedom to show up fully and be 100% invested in my client's success.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Build a network of like-minded business owners to collaborate with. Sharing written work for feedback (website stories, articles, contracts), collaborating on complex cases, and just supporting each other are key.
  2. Hire someone to help you with finances and taxes.
  3. If social media isn't fun for you, hire someone to complete this service to keep your message going out to the public with videos, reels, and written content.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I am a published author of two books, three ghostwritten books, and about 1000 articles. View examples on my writer's website.

Miles of Trees, Emme's Coming Out is the first in a 3-book series. A sapphic novel that tells the story of one woman coming out while she is in an open relationship. Paperback version on Amazon. Special edition hardback copies are available in stores, and "sign & ship" copies can be ordered directly from the author.

Also, I am a gay woman, and I love working with the LGBTQ community.
Thank you for highlighting small businesses ;)
