Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Brianna Kilcullen, Founder of Anact, located in Austin, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Anact is based out of Austin, TX, and is a sustainable brand that is building supply chain infrastructure to re-introduce hemp textile manufacturing back into the United States, specifically Texas. To date, we have passed legislation to legalize hemp, are active members on the board of the TX Hemp Coalition, and are in R&D to produce our first USA-made product. We believe that the greatest threat to national security is our inability to manufacture products domestically and own our supply chains. But we are more than just our vision; we are a community of people taking simple acts every day to create the world we want to see. Our customers are DTC as well as wholesale such as hotels, spas, yoga studios, and more.

Tell us about yourself

I started Anact because I didn't see anyone doing the work that needed to be done to move the textile industry forward. Instead of being frustrated, I put myself in the founder position and started building the brand, vision, and products that I wanted to see.

Motivation and building have never been an issue for me. My parents taught my brother and me by leading through an example to put in the time and work and be ambitious and hungry to get what we wanted out of life. It is something that is ingrained in my DNA.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is learning how to let people into my life to help me and trust that it's all going to be okay and things do not have to be perfect. If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Every day is hard! Once I learned that businesses fail when founders decide to stop solving problems/grow... that made me realize that I needed to constantly be in growth mode to ensure that Anact grows as well, which is not a state that most people choose to be in past their twenties, but it's a type of sport mode that I want to be in for the rest of my life.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Solve a problem.
  2. Stay hungry.
  3. People never forget how you treat them.
