Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amy Doeun, Owner of Amy Doeun Writing, located in Rush City, MN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an herbalist who creates educational content for people who are looking to improve their health by connecting with nature through the plant kingdom. I specialize in emotional and spiritual health or what I can esoteric herbalism.

Tell us about yourself

I have always been interested in health. It took a little longer for me to meet herbs but looking back; I had many providential meetings that led up to me formally studying herbalism in 2018. I now have my Master's in Herbalism. Every day it is the plants themselves that inspire me. It is easy to feel disconnected from nature and even ourselves. But plants are there right beside us, calling us to create a life of health, beauty, and connection. We just have to listen.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I love to create easily accessible educational herbal content. When I began studying, it was difficult to find online options. Now I have been able to create a series of beginner and intermediate classes allowing busy people to take control of their own health journey.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest (and best) things about being a business owner is pouring your whole self into your business. Being passionately connected to your work is both extremely fulfilling and exhausting.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do something that you love. Your passion will shine through and set you apart.
  2. Don't be afraid to share your journey. You will want to be considerate of other people you share your life with who might not wish to have their experience discussed but do share with you.
  3. Be prepared for the long haul. It takes a lot longer than you think it should to get everything going. Think about how long you might think it will take and double it. And don't forget to allow yourself time to relax and debrief.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Being a conscious business owner is one way to change the world. I created my business around the motto "Nourish and Grow Your True Self so You Can Change the World." If being a business owner is part of being your true self, know that you are changing the world.
