What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am the owner/designer for Amy Catherine Designs. Anyone aspiring to be inspired and choose joy.
Tell us about yourself
I was a mom of three little kids, always at a sporting event. I started creating custom charm jewelry with my kid's numbers and photos on them. All the moms wanted them too! So I began to sell them. I handcrafted photo ornaments, and they have stayed as one of my top sellers 20 years later. This led to a tween line and wholesale. I did these for years. Then my mother was diagnosed with Dementia, and it came to a halt. During her illness and as her caretaker, I was struggling every day. I had to do something to change my thought pattern. So always choosing joy was my mantra every day. It changed my life. So in my mom's honor, I created my Always Choose Joy line that I am so proud of.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My product was featured on Good morning America for Deals and Steals and also on Today show, I was featured on Holiday Steals and deals featuring my Photo Keepsake Ornaments.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Marketing, keeping the momentum when times are slow.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Keep it simple at first.
- Keep going after you hear No.
- Keep believing in yourself, and try not to compare yourself to others' accomplishments. Rather make them a goal.
