Amy Bodkin Consulting is a business focused on advocacy through our podcast Special Needs Kids Are People Too. Boosting skills of both parents and professionals in supporting special needs kids and connecting with our unique online community!
Tell us about yourself
As an Autistic adult, past School Psychologist, and homeschool mom of two Autistic kids, I want to spread the word that "Yes, Special Needs Kids Are People Too!" Often, people place individuals with special needs either on a pedestal too high for anyone to reach or trodden them beneath their feet. But, we are able to humanize each other only when we have eye-to-eye relationships with each other by acknowledging that "Yes, I am different like you."
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I have reached my goal when I am able to get parents and professionals to see and treat their children with the same level of respect that we treat adults!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about working in the field I work in is that there are a lot of traumatized people out there, and we have to be careful to communicate in a way that helps people move forward positively.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Know thyself and your vision.
- Be committed to that vision.
- Self-care comes first!
