Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amira Jones, founder of Amira’s Taste of Soul, located in Smyrna, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is personalized meal prep and catering. Clients can have their meals catered to their dietary needs or any restrictions they may have. My service offers a little bit more of a personal experience.

Tell us about yourself

I'm the founder of Amira's Taste of Soul, a Seattle native who has called the south my home for the last 20 years, currently residing in Atlanta, GA. Combined with my west coast roots, I put my own spin on comfort food. I specialize in meal prep, small catering events, and being a personal chef.

My love for food comes from my childhood when I would watch and help my mom cook at a young age. For me, food represents family, smiles, soul, and music, one of the reasons why I love to cook, and host people. Having a big family of my own, cooking for them always makes me smile, inclusive of extra people who always stop by for a meal. No matter how expensive or cheap, I enjoy eating different food and creating my own dishes.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is knowing that the food I make comes from love and makes people happy. Also, I knew that I could do it if I set my mind to something and made it work.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is the sacrifices you have to make because you’re the captain of the ship. Sometimes it takes a lot of time, but it’s also very rewarding.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure it’s something you love to do.
  2. Believe in yourself.
  3. Never give up.
  4. Never take no for an answer.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I enjoy what I do. I want to be able to share my love of food with as many people as I can. Give me a try, and you will not be disappointed.
