What's your business, and who are your customers?
Lucky Thirteen Candle Company sells handcrafted massage oil candles to consumers ages 24-55. We use all-natural ingredients, such as Shea butter, cocoa butter, sweet almond oil, soy wax, and fragrance oil(s). Our candles uniquely turn into massage oil, or they can be used as a candle! We are black and woman-owned. We donate a portion of each candle purchase to a non-profit.
Tell us about yourself
I started my candle company because “physical touch” is last on my love language list. However, it’s first on my husband’s love language list. In an effort to connect better, I decided to start making massage oil candles.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being featured on news outlets like ABC, NBC, and CBS.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Advertising is the most challenging part of the business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don’t quit your job until you’ve saved several months of income.
- Learn how to run ads yourself.
- Don’t overthink and just do it.
