Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and nutrition but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amber Maron, owner of Amber Maron Nutrition, located in Redondo Beach, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Holistic Nutrition Consultant (NC). I see all kinds of people who are looking to improve their health through changes in their diet and lifestyle. Most of my clients are women who either know they aren't feeling their best or have received test results that make them want to address their health more proactively. I specialize in whole food and plant-based nutrition to reduce inflammation, the underlying factor in the majority of chronic health issues.

Tell us about yourself

I have been interested in food and health since I was a teenager. While I initially started my career in environmental education and conservation, my two interests really get to merge as a Holistic Nutritionist. Taking care of ourselves and the planet goes hand in hand, and the food choices we make each day have a greater effect on the world around us. I love educating people on how they can support their own health while also supporting the environment. Watching clients reduce symptoms like pain, fatigue, or high blood pressure and create habits that make them feel good motivates me each day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My word-of-mouth clientele always makes me feel good. You know you're doing something right when people recommend you to their friends and family!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I had no business background before starting this career, and I've found advertising and marketing to be my biggest challenge.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Take a class in whatever does not come naturally to you.
  2. Reach out to people you admire and ask for advice or words of wisdom. Other people's experiences can help you avoid the same mistakes.
  3. Be patient with yourself. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
