What's your business, and who are your customers?
I make and sell handmade soap!
Tell us about yourself
I have always been drawn to the smells and textures of handmade soap. In 2015, I took a class on how to make cold-process soap and was immediately hooked. For months, I experimented with different recipes. After getting good reviews from family and friends and realizing how much I enjoyed the process, I decided to take it to the next step and create an online store. Since making soap is both a science and an art, I find a lot of joy in creating a product that works well but also looks and smells so fresh and happy 😄
Do you have daily rituals for work / wellness / fitness / mindfulness?
My daily rituals include running, journaling, and meditation. I don't usually do all three every day, but I choose one or two to do each day!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I really love making soap, so I feel so lucky and proud that I get to make soap all the time!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing with my business is inventory! Soap takes six weeks to cure (dry out), so I have to plan super far ahead to make sure I have enough for each month.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have fun! I love what I do. I can't imagine spending this much time and energy doing something I didn't love so much.
- YOU do YOU. There is a lot of pressure to fit in with trends (or algorithms on social media). I wholeheartedly believe that if you do things from the heart, your customers can see and appreciate that.
- Be easy on yourself. I love to have goals but also realistic expectations.
