Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alyssa Chubbuck, Founder of Growth Of The Phoenix, located in Glen Burnie, MD, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

GOTP is a Veteran and Woman owned company dedicated to relieving your business stress with Growth, Ownership, Trust, Passion, Innovation, and Service. We combine our enthusiasm for support, extensive knowledge, and creative minds to breathe life into your journey. From new entrepreneurs to seasoned experts or government agencies, we build and execute exclusive and strategic plans customized for you. We employ marketing and HR consultants that are highly skilled in communication, people management, social media, and digital design.

Tell us about yourself

I joined the US Navy right after the tragic events of 9-11-2001. As a cryptologist, I was trained in communication and built a love of people. I started running a social media page for my peers nearly 10 years ago and have grown it into a thriving community as a FaceBook Power Admin. I love connecting with others and started this business to take my passion further and turn my hobby into my next career.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a business owner, I am proud to represent women in an often crowded room of men. I enjoy sitting at the table and seeing clients' faces light up when I share how we can help.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There is a lot of work to get started and run the business! From filing paperwork and getting certified to renewing memberships and licenses, there is always more to do behind the scenes than most people initially think about. Owning a business is a constant process of learning because trends, regulations, and technology are always changing.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research! As all realtors would tell you, location is everything, and when starting up, that is not only physically but mentally. Your business will thrive if you find the niche and place that helps fill a need.
  2. Find a team! Even if you are starting alone, have a group of people you trust to bounce off ideas, gain inspiration, and share some of the burdens. LinkedIn is a great place to connect to others who have more experience. Do not be afraid to learn from others constantly.
  3. Don't be afraid to try new things! Since my first concept to now, GOTP has changed a lot, and flexibility is vital to ensuring success. Stepping out of your comfort zone with the right support and training can get you to higher levels than you ever thought possible.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Know your strengths. If you are a skilled craftsman who wants to sell your goods, it will be necessary to rely on others for some of the business know-how. Don't think that you can do it all on your own!
