Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sandy Lamb, Owner and CEO of Altitude Executive Coaching, located in Colorado Springs, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Hi, I’m Sandy, owner, and CEO of Altitude Executive Coaching. I originally started my business in 2017 to empower females in male-dominated industries to reach new heights through executive coaching and leadership development programs. While that remains my primary focus, I have added keynote speaking, International TEDx speaker coach, author, and certified EQ specialist to my resume as well.

Tell us about yourself

I am passionate about helping executives and am known for challenging the status quo to get the best out of your greatest asset, people. I sit on several non-profit Advisory Boards, including 4Word and Tomorrow People Organization. I have traveled the world to share my passion for leading with emotional intelligence on stages across the U.S., Canada, and Southeast Asia.

I reside in Colorado Springs and have three grown children that I enjoy spending quality time with. In my “blended” time, I love to hike, do bikram yoga and attend bible study. In 2022, me and my husband of 25 years began learning Goju-Ryu karate together from our son’s Sensei, and my goal is to make it to green belt by the end of 2023.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My first two executive coaching clients were in the Nuclear industry, where I used to work and have been promoted multiple times since working with me. The first woman I worked with for a total of 18 months and she was promoted to Vice President. The second I worked with twice in two different roles for six months at a time, and she just moved to a new location as Plant Manager, the most senior role on the job site.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Saying no to the wrong things (out of fear and scarcity mindset) and yes to the things that are aligned with your strategy, purpose, and values.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get ready to get ready. Too many businesses start without proper strategic planning. In addition to having a passion for the work, you have to take time to put pen to paper and plan for the future of your company.
  2. You do you, boo! I tell my children this all the time. I support other women because I’m not them, and they are not me. We all have unique strengths, and our stars shine bright in the sky no matter what they are next to. Comparison is the thief of joy.
  3. Measure your return on empathy (ROE). Whether it’s a co-worker, boss, client, or peer, lead authentically and compassionately to let them know you truly care about them and not just about their impact on your bottom line.
