What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a premium, GF, and 'accidentally vegan' oatmeal brand re-thinking the possibilities of oatmeal and oat-based products, using unique ingredients that have never entered the oatmeal equation before. Our customers care about their health and what they put into their bodies and want an experience from the foods and brands they trust to fuel themselves and their families.
Tell us about yourself
The inspiration for alternative OATS came amidst a career transition during the pandemic. The desire to tweak a 7-year oatmeal recipe we ate at home sparked an idea that our innovative recipes could have the potential for a business.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
In our just over 1-year of operations, we have been honored to participate in a Target retail-ready program, collaborated with Dogfish Head to produce an oat-centered beer, and launched our wholesale product line, hitting store shelves in the DMV region.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Looking past moments of uncertainty, access to capital to maintain growth.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Be ready to give it everything you've got. If you're going to 'jump in,' you must fully believe in yourself and your product or service. There will be failures and mistakes. Make sure you allow them to happen but learn the process from them.
