Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kyle Murphy, Founder and Managing Member of Alpha Advisors, located in Washington, D.C., USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Alpha Advisors, we are creators that deliver innovative real-world results for our clients. We are the go-to source for understanding the practical applications of Web3, maximizing the value of your data, and optimizing your tech stack. Our team operates with honesty, integrity, and transparency, and we expect the same from our clients. We are not your average consulting firm - we are uniquely focused on outcomes, not products or projects that won't grow your business. When you work with us, expect transformational outcomes, not temporary fixes.

Our customers span across sizes, industries, and locations. We have worked with some of the largest companies in the world to help design data-driven products to start-ups ready to scale their business. The common thread is working with people that are passionate about growing their business and open to new and innovative ways to scale.

Tell us about yourself

I am energized by the endless possibility the world of Web3 and emerging technology presents companies and individuals to expand their businesses and missions. I've helped companies navigate digital transformation for over 15 years, and I believe the technology underpinning Web3 is the next wave of evolution. My career has been focused on emerging technology - transitioning to the Cloud, the adoption of automation, and now blockchain, crypto, and NFTs. I wake up every day about the possibility of making a difference for the people and the companies we work with. Every company, big or small, wants to get to the next level, and I am privileged every day to help them achieve that goal.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Taking the leap to become an entrepreneur. Coming from a large firm with steady paychecks and job security, the decision to build something was daunting. The decision to go all in and commit to what I wanted to build was a major step for myself and my family. That belief has led us to become profitable within 5 months and put us on track to have a successful 2023.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

There is so much more to running a small business than just delivering the work. You become the head of IT, sales, marketing, finance, etc. I have had to learn to balance the amount of time that I can allocate to different areas to maximize what I can accomplish each day, week, and month.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Leverage your network - start with people you know and move from there.
  2. Never be afraid to ask - if you don't, the answer is already "no." The number of people willing to give you 15 minutes for advice, coaching, or even as sounding boards will astound you.
  3. Start with free - there are a ton of tools out there for when you are just starting. Leverage free technology to make things easier.
