Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sarah Wickstrom, Founder of All-Outdoors Fitness, located in Stuart, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

All-Outdoors Fitness (AOD) is not your ordinary gym. Located in Stuart, FL, our tropical gym allows its members to train fully outdoors, surrounded by lush greenery and fresh air. We offer functional HIIT workouts for all levels and train in small motivating groups for a more personal training experience. The AOD crew is a mixed demographic ranging from the ages of 18-65, both men and women.

Tell us about yourself

I'm 29 years old, an athlete, and an outdoor enthusiast! It was when I went overseas to play professional volleyball in Germany that I saw how strong the outdoor fitness community was there. As a side gig, I started to hold my own group workouts in various parks around the city of Berlin. It was an absolute blast, and then it got me thinking, "Why don't we have this in South Florida where we can train outside year-round?"

My clients and members are what motivates me each day. Watching them put in the work, progress, and then hit their goals is such an awesome journey to be part of. It's not easy and, of course, takes time, but that's what makes it so rewarding. And doing it together makes it all the more sweet.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The impact it's already making on people's lives. AOD is still new; we opened in January of this year.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Learning how to prioritize the different aspects of the business. This is when tips 2 & 3 really come into play for me...

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research. Write up a detailed business plan even if no one looks at it.
  2. Ask for help. You won't know how to do it all, which is totally okay.
  3. Talk to your clients/members. Once you get going, have your first clients/members get their feedback. You will be surprised on how much people want to help.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Follow your passion! It's never too early or too late.
