Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tara Johnson, Founder and Owner of Alive Coaching and Wellness, located in Aberdeen, MD, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Alive Coaching and Wellness offers coaching and other services to female entrepreneurs and career professionals. I focus on the clients' mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness by offering 1:1 Coaching, Group Coaching, Workshops, Digital Courses, and Retreats.

Tell us about yourself

I started my business after recognizing my own struggles that I was dealing with as a wife, mother, and licensed professional. After many years as a Respiratory Therapist, I knew the importance of maintaining mental and spiritual wellness to continue assisting others in need. I then decided to take that passion and start helping others who were either stagnant in their goals or too burnt out to pursue their dreams by coming alongside them as a coach.

I enjoy seeing the growth of my clients. Being able to come alongside women on their journey to personal development is a blessing. I am often asked what keeps me going, and it's my daughters. Knowing that their young minds are learning not just by what I teach them but also by my actions in life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Staying in business for as long as I have since 2018, and each year increasing my offerings to clients. Also, most recently completing the Women's Entrepreneurship Certificate Program with Cornell University and Bank of America.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The sacrifices of late nights or time away from family to work on items for the business. In the end, it will pay off but maintaining that healthy balance to not miss out on too many personal milestones in your life, also being intentional in protecting my mental and emotional wellness so I can continue to serve others in a healthy manner.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Stay consistent even on the days you do not feel like it.
  2. You might not realize it right away, but people are watching and wanting your services.
  3. Everyone's level of success looks different; learn what yours look like.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?
