What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a mobile makeup studio serving the special events and bridal community that wants a more tailored and unique makeup experience.

Tell us about yourself

I started off working at a BareMinerals store in 2009. My love for makeup grew after working there for a year, and this newfound passion led me to pursue a more formalized training program. After years of training, networking, and working at non-paid events for exposure, I decided to open my own mobile studio. Having the opportunity to be at my client's special events party and watch them go from prom to graduation, marriage, baby showers, etc.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Offering destination wedding packages. It's been my dream to be a traveling artist; I have been to Jamaica, Canada, China, and Mexico this year!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Charging what you're worth. It's hard to raise prices when you know that some cannot afford it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Take it slow. Don't take out a huge loan in the beginning if you can. I started small and only purchased my kit when I had a client that needed a shade I didn't have. Also, keep your overhead low. My business is mobile because the monthly cost of a lease would be too volatile for me. Some months are jam-packed, and some months are a little lighter. It's better not to be stressed about monthly payments.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Website, social media, Google, Yelp, and whatever else is out there. Register for it all! These are free platforms to get your business out there. Word of mouth is always great, but being present online is what the new generation is looking for.
