What's your business, and who are your customers?
As a Registered Dietitian and Chef, I provide healthy, predominantly plant-based recipes to individuals and families.
Tell us about yourself
I started my recipe blog in 2009 as a way to provide easily accessible resources for my private nutrition clients. In the last 14 years, that service has grown significantly, and now I primarily focus on continuing to provide recipes along with nutrition education and courses.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I created the recipes for the New York Times bestselling cookbook Fiber Fueled and created a 30-CME course for pediatricians, dietitians, and other health professionals on pediatric nutrition.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Deciding the best and most effective way to execute my ideas. I have so many things I want to do to grow my current business, but assessing the various risks and rewards of each and determining which ones are most aligned can be difficult sometimes.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- You will be working on your business around the clock. Make sure to do what you love.
- Don't create products based on what everyone else is doing or what you think is needed, do some research to really understand your audience and how you can provide what they're looking for.
- Learning a new skill takes time away from your known skills— you can hire out and spend the money and time to learn something new that your business needs to grow.
