Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alex Wachelka, Founder of Motherhood Blooms Lactation, located in Cambridge, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Motherhood Blooms Lactation is a private practice lactation business that supports new parents feeding their babies. My customers are often first-time moms navigating the challenges of breastfeeding.
Tell us about yourself
My business first started about a year after I had my first child. I had a challenging time feeding him and didn’t quite have the support I needed. That experience led me to my passion for educating and helping others.
Helping moms feel seen, heard, and confident when feeding their babies is crucial to me and motivates me daily.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Having an online practice is a huge accomplishment because what I do requires a particular skill set. Knowing that I can help moms from across the country is impressive.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Being a one-woman show! It’s just me in my business, so it’s hard to find time for everything that needs to be done.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Find your passion. When you’re working inside your zone of genius, it doesn’t feel like work. Ask for help in your home life (something I’m working on), but it’s hard to run and build a business if you’re a parent with small children at home and a third just starting.
Whatever that means, a post about a new business idea or incorporation takes that first step.
Where can people find you and your business?
If you like what you've read here and have your own story as a solo or small business entrepreneur that you'd like to share, then please answer these interview questions. We'd love to feature your journey on these pages.
