Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Adriana Epelboim, Co-Founder of ALEPEL, located in Aventura, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

ALEPEL represents a redefinition of the status quo of shoes and accessories. A canvas with endless possibilities where creative intervention brings together materials and processes that are wholly new. Our mission is to connect art and design into one-of-a-kind pieces that are as precious as the process involved. Our customer celebrates handmade and authentic work.

Tell us about yourself

Originally from Venezuela and living in Miami, I believed there was an aspect of artistry to my strategic nature. While working towards a degree in architecture from Pratt Institute in New York City, I fell in love with the intricacy behind geometries. This concept led to the application of architectural and artistic skills in powerful accessory designs.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Through our brand, we have been able to empower the artistic community. Every composition represents a specific theme in collaboration with key influencers or retailers. We have also partnered with organizations that support selected non-profit causes. The hand painting is done by a curated group of local artists composed of men and women of different ages, nationalities, and interests who connect through their passion for art. The past years have cemented the need for a brand like ALEPEL in the market and have proven that we have an offering that is unique.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Navigating the ups and downs, keeping a healthy business during those challenging times, such as the recent pandemic.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Understand the risks and rewards, and consider that growing a business from scratch can take several years.
  2. Be creative. Make sure you have a unique approach.
  3. Stay focused and organized, and have a clear set of realistic priorities.
