Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Igor Zukowiec, founder and CEO of Alchemiq Catering, located in New York, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We provide high-end catering services for fancy cocktail parties. Our clientele includes mostly corporate, private individuals, and celebrities.

Tell us about yourself

I combined multiple passions into what Alchemiq is today. Some of those are my obsession with good food, my love of visually striking imagery, and my likeness of luxury. I simply love the fact that others appreciate what I do. A multitude of positive feedback and steady, uncomplicated growth of the business is what makes me confident that I'm on the right track.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I started my company with virtually no investment and with no prior experience in catering. After just a few years, I expanded the business from New York City to Los Angeles, making it profitable on the West Coast in its first year. I didn't know how to get where I wanted to be when I started. I just believed in the power of trying and believing. I think my biggest accomplishments are yet to come.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things is to keep a healthy balance between aspirations, daily routines, personal life, and fun.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just begin. Life will show you the way.
  2. Don't be afraid to ask for help. You will be rejected often, but you will also find people more than willing to help you.
  3. You will make mistakes. Accept it from the beginning and learn from it.
