Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in skincare but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lauren Padawer, Founder of Alaska Glacial Essentials Skincare, located in Cordova, AK, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Alaska Glacial Essentials Skincare blends the most potent botanicals and raw glacial minerals from Alaska with premium functional ingredients in expertly crafted formulations to help people in the prime of their life combat signs of aging, reduce stress, and achieve radiant-glowing skin.

Tell us about yourself

I have been an entrepreneur since the age of 11. I fell in love with Alaska, specifically the Copper River, in my early twenties and wanted to become a social entrepreneur. I am driven by a passion for natural beauty and the deep spiritual connection between life in Alaska and protecting the bounty of our rich resources through the preservation of wild intact ecosystems. Alaska Glacial Essentials donates 2% of annual revenues (or 10% of net profits, whichever is greater) to organizations that love, work and fight for the protection of the Copper River Watershed.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

About 18.4% of private sector businesses in the U.S. fail within the first year. After five years, 49.7% have faltered, while after 10 years, 65.5% of businesses have failed. Alaska Glacial is going on 16 years in business. Starting a company from the ground up in Alaska poses a lot of challenges.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Delegation and trust are big challenges for me personally. I expect hired help to run Alaska Glacial with great attention to detail. Finding the right people and contractors takes a lot of trial and error.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Don't quit your day job, don't be afraid of failure, and stick with it!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I created Alaska Glacial products to soothe the skin, calm the spirit and help friends find stillness in a crazy world. My wish for you is to carve time for yourself and tune out the chaos. And when it’s time to crush your goals, I hope the beauty and magnitude of Alaska inspire you to go BIG!
