Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kumar Dattatreyan, Co-Founder of Agile Meridian, located in Springfield, VA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a co-founder of Agile Meridian. A company focused on organizational transformation and growth. We serve small to medium-sized businesses to implement Agile, Lean, and transformational patterns to help them grow and scale their business and talent.

Our motto is that we Deliver Amazing, which means always aiming for the triple win... improving your outcomes, enhancing your environment, and improving yourself.

Tell us about yourself

I am a professional coach and have been coaching and mentoring people for as long as I can remember. I started in restaurants and managed several multi-million dollar businesses before getting into technology.

If one thing ties the two together, it's my love for people, helping them and nurturing them to find their ultimate potential. In my current role, I serve my clients by providing them with coaching, mentoring, and business-building support.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is the personal satisfaction I get from helping people. The business I helped build is a vehicle that allows me to do what I love.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I think the hardest thing is not being able to turn it off! I am constantly thinking about my work (which I love), which affects my mental and physical health.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. We all have great ideas. The difference between success and failure is razor-thin, and trying your thoughts out is the only way to taste success.
  2. Being adaptable and resilient is something you can learn. You will become more flexible and resilient by being more intentional about it.
  3. Focus on what makes you happy first. Success will follow.
