Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rahul Bhattacharya, owner of Agile Atelier, located in Berlin, Germany.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Rahul coaches organizations, teams, and individuals to build effective products and cultures. He does this through agile transformations, individual leadership and product coaching, and ad hoc training sessions and workshops on topics such as OKRs, strategy, leadership styles, decision-making, and many more. Rahul's customers range from individuals to startups to large, global organizations.

Tell us about yourself

Rahul is passionate about coaching others on agile leadership and product topics in organizations to solve customer problems, enhance business processes and achieve measurable outcomes. Outside the workplace, he enjoys traveling to different countries, brewing Trappist beers, staying active outdoors, cooking, and learning about different cultures.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of the accomplishments that I'm the proudest of includes supporting an NGO in Kenya to streamline its business by creating a strategy and setting better goals. At the end of the day, it's very rewarding for me to see the impact my coaching has on other individuals over the course of our engagement. We both support each other in becoming better, and that is extremely fulfilling.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the toughest challenges a business owner can face is conveying the value that they can bring to another individual or business. This is especially true for new business owners. What helped me get over this challenge was putting out content frequently - sharing my thoughts, achievements, and engagements through different formats, such as podcasts, blog posts, interviews, books, and so on.

Speak and write about your experiences and share them publicly without fear of judgement from other people. This takes some getting used to - and to be honest, I still find myself struggling with this from time to time, but it is crucial as a business owner that you either do this yourself or partner with another individual or entity that can support you with it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't over-analyze. Do your homework and validate assumptions, but beyond that, work incrementally to test different ideas, get direct feedback from users, and build on that.
  2. Separate business and personal time. As a business owner, it can be hard to make that hard cut. Rather than working continuously without clear boundaries, it's important to spend time on your hobbies and with the people you love. This will give you more energy to put into your business.
  3. Ask yourself how you are in service to others in the world.
