Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ange Helie, Founder of AfterGlow Lifestyle Coaching, located in Banff, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is called AfterGlow Lifestyle Coaching, and I help women make peace with their bodies, food, and exercise by ditching calorie counting for food freedom. My customers are women struggling on their health journey, doing all the right things, eating all the right foods, and trying to work out consistently but still not getting the results they want.

Tell us about yourself

I’m a personal trainer, nutritionist, and life coach who realized there is a huge gap in the health industry. People are working out and eating “healthy” but still not loving their bodies. My role is to bridge that gap by helping women release expectations and begin to trust their bodies. They work a lot to help women understand the role of emotions (human emotion is the missing link in a lot of women’s health journeys.) I’m also a wife and a mom to two little girls. My little girls are the reason I do what I do - to break down societal stigma so that women can embrace who they are, nourish and move their bodies from a place of acceptance. I live in the mountains, so when I’m not working out in the gym, I love being in nature.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Oct 6, 2022, I won bronze for the best personal trainer (top woman) in Banff. But beyond that, my biggest accomplishment is helping women accept their bodies by learning how to reconnect and trust their bodies. I am so proud when I get to experience how much “lighter” a woman feels after women with me. I’m not speaking in terms of kgs or lbs, but in the weight lifted off from the mental toll following a diet and health routine can take. My tagline is, mind your body, find your glow,” and when a woman shifts into this feeling, that is MY biggest accomplishment :)

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is that everything is on you. It’s not just “let’s sit down and chat” with clients. It’s the sales, marketing, workshops, advertising, emails, the no’s, the maybes, the systems, the where is the money coming from, the chaos in my mind! But what keeps me grounded is the reason why I’m doing this — which is a movement beyond myself.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you’re in full alignment with what you’re doing.
  2. Trust the process (the last thing to grow on a fruit tree is a piece of fruit.)
  3. Outsource/get help when you can! Don’t waste hours doing things you dread doing — outsource if you can, and stay focused on what you can do to keep the needle moving in your business.
