Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Adriana Roa, Owner of Ananda, Connect With Your Soul, located in Oakville, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I have a spiritual boutique store in Bronte, where I sell different tools such as crystals, candles, incense, and books to support my clients in their healing journey. At the store, I also have a "healing room" where I offer alternative therapies that will be customized according to the client's needs. My customers are people who are looking for support in their healing journey and/or people who want to try alternative ways to find peace and balance in their lives.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a Colombian/Canadien. I landed in Oakville 13 years ago. I have a Bachelors Degree in Human Resources, but my calling was to help people in their inner growth journey. I have been practicing alternative therapies for more than 25 years. I have been trained in different energy-based modalities. I turned my passion 5 years ago into my full-time job when I opened the store. The experiences and knowledge through the years have given me the tools to support my clients in different ways. My own healing journey started 28 years ago when I gave birth to my oldest son. I love sharing with my clients what I have learned through the years. Every morning I look forward to getting into my store, which has turned into a Sanctuary of peace, healing, and love for me and for all the clients that visit Ananda.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I feel that through the years, I have accomplished a lot. I am still alive after 3 years of COVID and the perseverance and dedication to what I love.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

In my case is that I didn't have a background in business; my field has always been the "people," and turning what you love to do into a business is not easy, and knowing how to operate a store has been my challenge.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have patience.
  2. Find some support in the fields that you are not so knowledgeable.
  3. Be flexible to change the route/plans when life shows you another way to continue in business.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Being an entrepreneur is not easy; it is easier to stay in your comfort zone. However, I feel that life is about experiencing it by going out of your comfort zone. It is uncomfortable at the beginning, but it is worth it!! Enjoy your entrepreneurial journey that makes the difference!
