Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Adita Yrizarry-Lang, a Motivational Speaker, Author, and Health Coach, based in Miami, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a health coach, author, and speaker. I work with corporations providing corporate wellness education and programs, and I also work with parents to provide a strong nutritional foundation for their kids. I am all about healthy living made simple! Manufacturers have complicated so much, and living a healthy life, should fit seamlessly into the craziest of days.

Tell us about yourself

I have been a health professional for almost 40 years. OMG, I still can't believe how time flies. I LOVE what I do. Inspiring others to live a healthy life, and giving them the tools to make it happen, is what I thrive on. I started back in the early 80s, teaching aerobics when using vinyl records for music was a thing. From there, I taught at the very first fitness conference in California and proceeded to travel the world, teaching other health professionals.

At the same time, I was personal training and teaching classes and learning more about why people struggled with their health and weight. I became a faculty member for the National Academy of Sports Medicine, teaching biomechanics, and was finishing school in holistic nutrition. All of this combined brings me to today, helping others to create new habits that inspire healthy living and longevity.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It may sound strange, but the ability to continuously restructure my business to fit the trends in our world. Time keeps changing and changing fast, and you need to master flexibility so that you are not left behind or left without a business.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

With social media and tech at the forefront, this is my biggest challenge. The minute I think I have it all figured out, a new algorithm sneaks in. I have to constantly educate myself in these areas to stay up-to-date and in the know!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Invest in yourself; the more you know, the easier it is to build a great team and charge forward.
  2. Create a schedule that blocks out "ME" time. The better you feel, the easier it is to motivate others and problem solve.
  3. Focus on what you are great at and outsource for everything else. This is a game changer.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Although I have worked for others during different stages of my life, being an entrepreneur is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. You are in charge; if you are lazy, you won't get far, but if you are dedicated, the sky's the limit! We learn from our mistakes and grow bigger and stronger, just like exercise!
