What's your business, and who are your customers?

I coach with my husband at Add Value 2 Life Coaching. I help moms who are struggling with an empty nest. We take on roles that society places on us, many times at the expense of our dreams. This can lead to regret, shame, doubt, and depression. I help moms regain their confidence, desire, and dreams, allowing them to love their families and be the best woman they can be.

Tell us about yourself

I am a mother of 2 and a grandma again. I worked in Christian ministry for 20 years, and every role I took on in ministry and job hunting was what someone needed at the time. I never took a job or volunteer assignment because it fit into my dream. I started asking myself and the universe what I wanted to do when I grew up (at the age of 40). Every role I had involved a sort of coaching or had an element that allowed me to coach. I want to see women thriving in their relationships and not slipping into depression.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

For me, it is the privilege of working with my husband. He started our business in 2018, and I left my 9-5 this past spring. We are building our business by design. We are designing the business so that we can live the life of adventure we desire. We have just hired our daughter as our admin in social media.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I have been in leadership in many roles, but as a business owner, the buck stops with you. There is no one else to blame. But there is also no one at the office to ask for help. You have to be intentional and open to asking for advice and support and be willing to say I don't know. It is extremely beneficial to have mentors and coaches. Having that wise outside perspective will take you far.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start NOW. There is no advantage to waiting. If you have an idea, do it, don't wait for things to get better. You have the passion; make it happen.
  2. Be persistent. You have the dream; make it happen. Don't dilly dally. Work hard in the direction of your dream.
  3. Ask for help. You may be alone in responsibility, but many are willing to support and offer encouragement or advice. Learn from their mistakes and successes.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Entrepreneurs will save the world. They support more causes and will create more good in the world.
