Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lygeia Ricciardi, founder and CEO of AdaRose, located in Washington, DC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Busy women who do it all often put themselves last. Forty-two percent of working moms are suffering from burnout. We're making it easy for them to take care of themselves in body and mind at home with a Self Care Experience that combines a care package of products with online instruction on how to use them from experts in mindfulness and skincare. It's a little like a visit to a day spa, but without the scheduling, lost time, driving, high price, and need for a babysitter. We take care of the women who care for the rest of us!

Tell us about yourself

I am a working mother myself, so I've experienced the need to do everything for everyone else and the sense that I don't have any "me time." I've also spent 20 years in the digital health industry, so I know and care a lot about engaging people in supporting their own health and wellness.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Right now, my partner Lauren and I are going through the Founder Institute, a startup accelerator program that helps entrepreneurs build and grow their businesses. The group started with 40 entrepreneurs, and we're down to just 15. But we just passed a big milestone with flying colors, so I'm proud of our hard work and progress!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Putting boundaries between your business and your personal life.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be motivated by an idea or goal that you care deeply about, not just the mechanism of the business.
  2. Don't go it alone. Find a partner or community to work with.
  3. Just start. You'll never feel like you're "ready."

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

We're looking for partners in DC and beyond to source wellness products and provide video expertise. We're also looking for HR managers at companies to talk about how our product can best support employee wellness.
