Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in athletic wear but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Stephanie D'Hondt, founder of Renard + Elliott, located in Calgary, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are an everyday athletic wear company specializing in women’s leggings! We know what it’s like to have your hands full (being a working mom yourselves), so we made sure our leggings have deep pockets for all your things! Our customers are all women, mostly moms, looking for leggings that don’t slip, have pockets, a high waist, and look phenomenal on!

Tell us about yourself

I started the business on Maternity leave with my son but didn’t actually get anything really rolling into I had my daughter two years later! I’m motivated daily by our goal to help local women in need. For every ten pairs of pants sold, we donate a pair to women in need!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Launching the business, it’s overwhelming and quite nerve-wracking, but once you’ve jumped in, it’s just time to learn to swim 😆

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Finding the time to work on the business without feeling mom guilt. That’s something specific to mom entrepreneurs, but that’s by far my biggest challenge!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just do it!! Jump in and figure it out as you go.
  2. Make entrepreneur friends who “get” it.
  3. Be shamelessly proud of yourself!
