Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alex Dumas, CEO of Abundance Daily Coaching, located in Clayton., NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Since 2018, I have been supporting leaders from various industries to create a lifestyle of significance and high-performing businesses. The customers that work best with me are fun, enthusiastic, relentless, and embody high levels of integrity.

Tell us about yourself

I was introduced to the world of coaching in 2016 and fell in love with it immediately. Over the course of a few years, from investing in different programs, reading books, attending conferences, and listening to podcasts/audiobooks, it became very clear to me that the next phase for me would be to start my own coaching practice. In 2018, Abundance Daily Coaching was born, and I'm inspired to help leaders see the endless possibilities available to them every single day. It is a level beyond motivation because that can fade and is subject to feelings rather than commitment. Serving people is a healthy obsession for me because as my clients grow, I benefit from that expansion as well.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a business owner, I was part of the leadership team that organized an in-person event called 'The Ultimate Experience' in Phoenix, AZ. I've also been blessed to team up with amazing coaches, and together, we launched the BIPOC Coach Collective to elevate coaches of color around the world.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

What I experienced at the start of my career was reinventing my identity, and it is something that I am able to support my clients with. As an entrepreneur, your success and challenges start and end with you. We don't have anyone telling us what to do and when to get it done. That is a model that serves in a traditional corporate work environment. There is a lot of independence, and with that freedom comes the responsibility to do the most important tasks. That requires a shift in upgrading your identity to take total responsibility.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a mission and vision so big that your clients can fit inside of it. Some people call this their "why." This requires a relentless commitment to serving people at a high level. A huge mission will pull you towards that, especially when you face adversity.
  2. Ask for help. To make your big mission and vision a reality, realize that doing it on your own isn't effective. The success I've had has come as a result of collaborating with others. There's more than enough money, clients, recognition, etc., for us all. Abundance is available to all of us, and we can experience that much more quickly together than alone.
  3. Have fun. Take your craft/service seriously but loosen up the pressure on yourself. I have a philosophy that "if it isn't fun, then it doesn't get done." There are many opportunities to create games within your business to stay energized and focused. This is a journey that will require your most creative and enthusiastic self to make the impact and income you want. Commit to having fun; you'll thank yourself for this down the line.
