What's your business, and who are your customers?
ABQ Eyebrow Designer is a locally-owned family business in Albuquerque, New Mexico. ABQ Eyebrow Designer caters to no specific crowd or type of person. Everyone is always welcome. We provide a hair removal service using a thread to remove hair from the root.
It's similar to waxing but more suited for sensitive skin. Threading is fast and affordable, doesn't tug on the skin, provides for a more precise hair removal method, is long-lasting, and is chemical-free. Other services we provide are henna tattoos, facials, and body waxing with our esthetician.
Tell us about yourself
I am an Indian immigrant that came to America with dreams of a better life. When I first immigrated here, I was able to provide for my parents and my two boys in a new country by working in salons. I worked for years in different salons and finally have a place I can call my own. I would have to say that my family and my customer's happiness is my motivation to work every day.
It's always great to see people leave with a smile on their face after getting their eyebrows threaded, face threaded, chin threaded, and getting other services done. It's not much, but it's something that makes people feel happier and better about themselves.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is that I was able to go from working at the salon to owning it. It was a team effort with my family, but we are proud of who we are and how far we have come.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things to do with owning a business is learning to delegate tasks and to say "no." I personally feel that I am a bother when I try to delegate tasks to other people, but you slowly learn that when you start a business, it's hard to do everything on your own. That's why it's very important to have people you trust and who support you and your goals. It's also hard to say "no" when things get busy, or there's something you are not comfortable with.
When dealing with customers, it's easy to get carried away in making sure they have the best experience, but sometimes you have to prioritize their safety and well-being over the service they want. Work together to come to a solution that makes the customer happy and keeps them safe.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Starting a business is not easy. It's also not anything that happens overnight. You have to work hard and be ready for the possibility of having zero profit for a year or two. It's also nice to make sure you have a strong support system that is there for you when you need it.
