Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Abby Beale, founder of Homeopathy Healings, located in Wallingford, CT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a certified classical homeopath who helps people who want to use natural medicine to help with their chronic health issues.

Tell us about yourself

I got into homeopathy when my son was nine months old. He started getting repeated ear infections and had multiple doses of antibiotics with no long-term success. Getting ear tube surgery was suggested, but as his mom, I wanted another way. I looked and found a homeopath who interviewed us and, after an hour or so, gave my son, now 18 months old, a homeopathic remedy which he gladly took to dissolve in his mouth (it's sweet). His ear infections cleared up, and he never had another one. That was a head-scratching moment for me. A few years later, I decided to learn more and then kept studying to become nationally certified. I have been a professional homeopath now for ten years (though treating folks for years before) and think homeopathy is the coolest, safest, and most effective medicine on the planet. I love the challenge of putting the proverbial pieces of a person's life puzzle together and matching them to an appropriate homeopathic remedy.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have figured out that educating people about homeopathy is one of the best ways to get people interested. So I have created related educational materials and run study groups to enhance people's understanding of homeopathy.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Dealing with the mass perceptions around what makes for good health and the best healing options. It's a challenge being a foreigner in a strange land.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Network, network, network. It's who you know that will help grow your business.
  2. Have a solid web presence with calls to action that include a lot of free stuff that helps people feel they know, like, and trust you.
  3. Take good care of yourself. If you don't feel strong and healthy yourself (mentally and physically), your business will also suffer!
